SEXTANT: masculinities, sexualities & decolonialities

ABSTRACT

This talk was part of an April 2023 event celebrating LGBTQI+ History Month organised collaboratively between the University College Dublin LGBTQI+ EDI Subgroup and UCD Library. The talk responds to a reading by author Katherine O’Donnell from her novel, Slant, published in May 2023. The reading featured two excerpts from the novel which is a coming-of-age story of a lesbian Irish woman set during the AIDS crisis in the 1980s and the 2015 Marriage Equality Referendum in Ireland. In this talk, Niamh Nestor reflects on these excerpts and the significance of queer history in the present day.
