ABSTRACT

Rape culture is made up by a particular set of beliefs and by values that provide an environment conducive to rape and misogyny, supporting and excusing sexual violence. This project in the form of a Padlet website defines rape culture and demonstrates how it is present in everyday life. It displays several examples of how rape culture is reproduced in and by our society. These examples include jokes and sayings, music, social media and more. Additionally, the Padlet provides possible resources and tools on how to combat rape culture, focusing on education, engaging men, rewriting policies and setting better examples in media. The Padlet predominantly uses binary language. This is due to gender stereotypes fabricating rape culture and the fact that most perpetrators and sex offenders are cisgender men. However, people of all genders can be victims of sexual assault and people of all genders can be perpetrators.
